How a Shrimp Became Mediatech's Fitness Mascot

What do shrimps and office workers have in common? More than we'd like to admit. After hours spent sitting at our desks, it's easy to end up hunched over keyboards, slowly transforming into something that resembles a shrimp. That's exactly where one of Mediatech's favorite traditions began.

Five years ago, we launched our annual Triathlon with a simple goal: encourage people to get out of their chairs, move more, and build healthier habits. Since then, the challenge has become a staple of life at Mediatech, earning nicknames like "Out the Shrimp," "Shrimp Challenge," and "Shrimpathlon." But most people simply call it the Triathlon.

Unlike a traditional triathlon, ours swaps swimming for walking, making it accessible to anyone looking to start their fitness journey. Participants spend the entire month of May collecting kilometers through walking, running, and cycling—whether that's during a weekend bike ride, an evening run, or simply choosing to walk home after work. And while the goal is to move more, things tend to get surprisingly competitive.

To keep the challenge welcoming for different fitness levels, participants can choose between Freshies and Enthusiasts categories. Winners are determined by the total distance covered, and this year's edition included an extra twist: a geocaching challenge that sent participants hunting for hidden clues across Vilnius and Kaunas. The fifth edition was also our biggest yet, attracting more than 100 participants. Together, they walked over 4,500 kilometers, ran nearly 2,000 kilometers, and cycled more than 3,600 kilometers throughout May.

The challenge wrapped up with an awards ceremony celebrating the top three finishers in each category, alongside a few lucky prize winners selected at random. And for the first time, every participant received a LEGO shrimp to proudly display on their desk.

A small reminder that no matter how busy work gets, sometimes the most important challenge is simply getting up and moving.
